Chemical-free DIY Pregnancy Beauty Tips

More and more modern mothers-to-be are making the choice to go chemical-free when it comes not only to food but cosmetics during pregnancy. This transition doesn’t have to be costly and difficult – there are plenty of DIY, all-natural replacement products that you can prepare in the convenience of your own home, for little cost. Here are just a few:

Lips

Start softening your lips with your own homemade scrub. All you need is a tablespoon of brown sugar and a dash of honey or coconut oil, mixed together. This homemade scrub has the exact same effect as a store-bought product and probably tastes better. Organic cocoa butter also makes for a great lip balm, applied directly.

Face

Forget the expensive face masks you buy at the pharmacy. Plain Greek yogurt from your refrigerator makes for a great face mask, soothing dry or irritated skin. Simply spread a few tablespoons of chilled yogurt on your face, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then rinse well.

Body

We all know that the caffeine in coffee acts as a stimulant for our bodies, but did you know that it can have the same effect on your skin? Concoct your own DIY coffee body scrub with two tablespoons of used coffee grinds mixed with four teaspoons of olive oil. Make sure to use caffeinated coffee, because caffeine is the magic ingredient that smoothes and tightens the skin. Ask your OBGYN about contact with coffee during pregnancy – while it is usually harmless, you might want to avoid it.

Hair

You don’t need to go to the salon for a pampering hair treatment. All you need are the avocado and banana you probably already have in your kitchen! Mash up one banana and one avocado together in a bowl. Smooth this mixture over dry hair and let sit for 10 minutes. Rinse well.

Also, instead of store-bought dry shampoo – for the days when you just don’t have time to shower – all you need to do is throw a few tablespoons of corn starch in your hair and brush through.

If you prefer a beachy hair look, you can also make your own sea salt spray. Simply add a tablespoon of sea salt and coconut oil to a cup of boiling water. After it cools down, put the solution into a spray bottle and your hair will look like you just left the beach!
